After reading this, try to tell me that teaching reading by the whole language method isn't destroying our youth.

Dutch film
This link will take you to the film by Dutch director Theo van Gogh which recently got him murdered by an Islamic extremist while he was bicycling down an Amsterdam street. After the first 30 seconds or so, it is in English, so hang on a little. The su-titles are in Dutch for those who can read it - not me, except a few nouns and verbs.
Believe that this is a war to the death.

Netherlands problem
An interesting take on the situation in Holland with their Muslim proble.
HOG ON ICE: "But what happens when a crackhead shoots you in the leg even AFTER you give him your Piaget and your wallet? Suddenly, a Republican mayor doesn't seem like a bad thing.
The Dutch just got shot in the leg. Up until now, terrorists have generally ignored them, but a brave Dutch filmmaker started telling the truth about radical Islam, and a Muslim nutcase shot him in the street, slit his throat, and used a knife to pin a manifesto to his chest.
What did the USA do when terrorists challenged our values? Bin Laden threatened to confine terrorism to red states, and what did we do? We re-elected bin Laden's worst enemy and added Republicans to both houses of Congress.
The Dutch, on the other hand, responded to a single murder by repudiating the leftist drivel they've been spewing proudly for decades. Holland is one of the most liberal countries on a liberal continent, but now they're putting and end to their touchy-feely, all-embracing, nuanced immigration policies.
Wonder why that is. Could it be because conservatives really believe in their values, while liberals only pretend to believe in theirs? In a word, YES. Everyone is a liberal when the living is easy. But when reality intrudes and bursts your soft utopian bubble, people turn conservative. Fast. Remember how New Yorkers adored President Bush for six months after 9/11? That's the state the Dutch are in right now.
These days, Muslim immigration means trouble. Doesn't matter if most Muslims are wonderful people. When you let Muslims in, you get the chaff as well as the wheat. The terrorists don't have big flashing lights strapped to their foreheads. They look just like peaceful Muslims, so in they come. And some Dutch members of Parliament are so terrified, they want to take the conservative--no, Draconian--way out. They want to close the borders completely.
Hope this works out.

Hollywood Health
Sorry to see that one of my favorite actors, Vincent D'Onofrio is so unstable. Not his health, but his politics. Oh, well...
Veteran's Day 2004
It's Veteran's Day, and the biggest effect on most people is the fact that there's no mail, the banks are closed, and there are sales at the mall.
It's not a holiday for most companies, so it is unusual if there are local celebrations or rememberances to attend.
This needs to be corrected.
For a number of years, the desire to honor the protectors of our freedom wained. This was a result of the passage of time from WWII, lack of knowledge of what happened in Korea, and ambivalence over the need to honor those who served us in Viet Nam. After the Gulf War, we were proud of our troops, but I it felt strange trying to put together a celebration of those who were still our contemporaries - but we should have.
Now, we know that we are in a conflict for our future. Why? Because our enemies tell us so. And since they have no regard for their own lives, and their only demonstrated goal is our destruction, we are obliged to destroy them first.
Tasked with our protection and the destruction of our enemies is our all volunteer military and the technologically superior weapons our free market system has developed for them to do their job. War by necessity and its nature is ugly and high risk for anyone involved, and our volunteers know that when they enlist. But enlist they do, because they know the existance of our way of life requires some of us to heed a calling that exceeds that of the rest of us. God Bless them for being able to meet this need and challenge. Though our liberal media may disparage their deeds, and the left-wing punditry may challenge their need to perform their duty, we citizens recognize the need for their existance and the righteousness of the deeds on a daily basis.
That is why we need a visible symbol to honor these people now. Because our dominant visible media does not.

Walter E. Williams has it right
This says it all to me, but read the whole thing.
Walter E. Williams: Why we're a divided nation: "The best thing the president and Congress can do to heal our country is to reduce the impact of government on our lives. "

Is there a future for the Dems?
If you read this troubled piece from KEN LAYNE, you begin to wonder if the US Left can ever regain their majority status? I can't believe that a faith-based nation will continue to support a party that includes supporters such as this.
Well, you can only hope...

Countdown time?
How long before McAuliffe and AirAmerica are history?
Blogs For Bush: "Remember everyone, not only did we bring George W. Bush to victory, and defeated John Kerry, we defeated Michael Moore, MoveOn.Org, George Soros, Al Franken and liberal 'talk radio', the liberal blogosphere, Terry McAuliffe, the mainstream media, Hollywood, etc. etc. "

2nd Amendment update
National Review Online has a summary of how congress stands on the Second Amendment after yesterdays election.
We won, but...
Congratulations to all on a hard won fight against all odds and more competitors than just the Dems. Think:
- George Soros and all the 527's
- Moore and F911
- 25+ hate Bush books and all the TV interviews that went with them
- CBS News & Rather(gate)
- ABC News & Jenning
- and all the resultant hate from those who lost, see Slant Point, will make our future a challenge

How Kerry backers try to justify their choice
The Discerning Texan has a great piece dissembling a number of editorials supporting the other guy.
Kerry's USN Discharge
Did Kerry get an honorable discharge, or not? Tom Lipscomb, of The New York Sun thinks, probably not. And we can thank the Carter Administration for 'correcting the error'!
The 'smarter' candidate
You'd think that after 30 years to think about what he said about our troops in Vietnam, Kerry would be more careful about how he characterizes their actions now. But it doesn't seem that all that 'rest time' he's had in the Senate has led to much circumspection.
- blame the trrops in '71 for war crimes
- blame the troops in '01 for letting UBL get away
- blame the troops in '03 for not securing 0.01% of explosives in the middle of a war
Do you think that Kerry is responsible for anything? Oh...
- blame the Church for his 1st marraige, and get them to unnul it.
