Election Night thoughts
Short note - ok, we're at Andy and Jamie's at an election night 'party' == first time for me to spend a night like this away from my sanctum. It looks like mcCain is going down. I'm concerned for the future, but not suicidal. All things considered the election is closer than predicted. Just consider:

You know, it was during the third debate that a question was asked about the Supreme Court, or justices - can't remember which. McCain answered with comments about strict constructionists, adhering to the constitution, etc. BHO talked about fairness and empathy toward the lower classes, etc. - nothing about the constitution at all. You'd thing that a constitutional law professor/instructor would understand how the three branches of our government worked. But now it has come to light why he said what he said - he doesn't like the way our government works, and thinks the Constitution is a barrier to his idea of government growth. Thoughts
This one has no link, just a few observations from me.
Kicked the 4 pointer off the lawn on the way to work yesterday. He looks bigger than I thought up close.
It is nice to see the polls looking a little tighter lately. I remember when Clinton won in '92 how bad I felt about the future, even though he was a 'new democrat'. If McCain can't pull this out I will be absolutely sick about the future of: taxes, the 1st Amendment, the 2nd Amendment, federalism, capitalism, the Supreme Court, climate change based laws, and a Constitutional Convention. Watching Pelosi, Reid, and BHO having a mutual orgasm with Chris Dodd and Barney Frank will put me off my meds for good. Maybe I'll be lucky and Texas will vote to secede.

Assuming the next president lives to age 80. Sen. McCain would receive ZERO pension as he would reach 80 at the end of two terms as president. Sen. Obama would be retired for 26 years after two terms and would receive $4,973,800 in pension.
Therefore it would certainly make economic sense to elect McCain in November.

I was doing some computer work in the guest room tonight, when I walked out to the house, there were 8 deer on the front lawn, between the driveway and the house. The nice buck from the other night, too.

But first, I'm going hunting with Jim in NY this year, bought a warm pair of boots last weekend, the rest I can get by with mostly what I have, I hope. Lots of deer on the lawn eating up my corn lately. All does, except one little fork horn, not the one Jim saw last month. No racks like at the lake, next year I need a feed plot!

South Louisiana
Well now - quite a week in the Gulf so far. I won't comment on the incompetence of the governor and mayor, or the knee-jerk blaming of Bush, or the race baiting of the race-pimps. But something has been sticking in my craw about something that doesn't seem to add up - the poverty class in south LA in spite of the riches flowing through the region. Now, I don't know The Big Easy as well as I'd like to - just love the food, music, and booze - but how can a region that has its fingers on so much value coming in, out going out of the country be so poor? Is the government corruption the reason, or union dock workers? There is no way that there is a lack of tax money to have adequate schooling, or services unless people don't want them or the money goes into someone else's pockets? I've seen life at 'Nawlins' pace, and realize that a good percentage of the lower class are possibly just fine with their life in low gear (or they would get out). But to have inadequate police ( the place is always dangerous, even for locals), no planning that works, and sense of urgency before the storm, just is real difficult for me to understand.

Because the last one, is it just me or did it seem to happen just like that. They had just ordered some hummuus and smores from room service and all of a sudden a gallaga game broke out. The sky was full.
We waited so long here, of course you'll hear a lot of controversy. I think it's time to go in. You think the Elite Republican Guard is really going to stop us? Anybody remember these guys from the last battle? They warned us, you don't want to run into the Elite Republican Guard, they're killing machines. We got 20 miles away from them, all we saw is Roadrunner clouds running off into the distance. They were in Vegas last week opening for Robert Goulet.
I think it's time to start the war. My favorite Afghani war story is the Al Qaeda fighter who is crushed to death by the dissenting humanitarian food pallet. Everybody sitting around in the next life at the Psychotic Algonquin Roundtable swapping tales. What happened to you, Khalid? Hi again
Wow, its been a long time since I sat down and put anything on this page - over a month. A lot of personal stuff has been happening that should be straightened out soon. With the SOTU going on tonight, its a new term, and a fresh start for the Dembo's to begin the new fight. I'm right on the cust of whether Social Security reform would help me or not - but it is absolutely critical for my kids and grandkids. My family is not, and has never been wealthy, so inheritance is not in my vocabulary. Any gov't program that allows you to contribute to an account you own and can pass on is the correct way to go through life.

Dutch film

The Dutch, on the other hand, responded to a single murder by repudiating the leftist drivel they've been spewing proudly for decades. Holland is one of the most liberal countries on a liberal continent, but now they're putting and end to their touchy-feely, all-embracing, nuanced immigration policies.
Wonder why that is. Could it be because conservatives really believe in their values, while liberals only pretend to believe in theirs? In a word, YES. Everyone is a liberal when the living is easy. But when reality intrudes and bursts your soft utopian bubble, people turn conservative. Fast. Remember how New Yorkers adored President Bush for six months after 9/11? That's the state the Dutch are in right now.
These days, Muslim immigration means trouble. Doesn't matter if most Muslims are wonderful people. When you let Muslims in, you get the chaff as well as the wheat. The terrorists don't have big flashing lights strapped to their foreheads. They look just like peaceful Muslims, so in they come. And some Dutch members of Parliament are so terrified, they want to take the conservative--no, Draconian--way out. They want to close the borders completely.

Veteran's Day 2004
It's Veteran's Day, and the biggest effect on most people is the fact that there's no mail, the banks are closed, and there are sales at the mall.
It's not a holiday for most companies, so it is unusual if there are local celebrations or rememberances to attend.
This needs to be corrected.
For a number of years, the desire to honor the protectors of our freedom wained. This was a result of the passage of time from WWII, lack of knowledge of what happened in Korea, and ambivalence over the need to honor those who served us in Viet Nam. After the Gulf War, we were proud of our troops, but I it felt strange trying to put together a celebration of those who were still our contemporaries - but we should have.
Now, we know that we are in a conflict for our future. Why? Because our enemies tell us so. And since they have no regard for their own lives, and their only demonstrated goal is our destruction, we are obliged to destroy them first.
Tasked with our protection and the destruction of our enemies is our all volunteer military and the technologically superior weapons our free market system has developed for them to do their job. War by necessity and its nature is ugly and high risk for anyone involved, and our volunteers know that when they enlist. But enlist they do, because they know the existance of our way of life requires some of us to heed a calling that exceeds that of the rest of us. God Bless them for being able to meet this need and challenge. Though our liberal media may disparage their deeds, and the left-wing punditry may challenge their need to perform their duty, we citizens recognize the need for their existance and the righteousness of the deeds on a daily basis.
That is why we need a visible symbol to honor these people now. Because our dominant visible media does not.
